Spiritual

inner-spiriual

St Mark’s is proud to be an Anglican School. For over 100 years we have been helping form and equip young Christians. Faith informs all that we do at St Mark’s, and you will be able to see that faith lived out in the following ways.

Worship

Twice a week the whole school gathers for a church service – once at school led by senior students, and once at St Mark’s Church www.osmparish.com led by the Vicar. Families are expected to join the Parish for an annual service with their waka and an end-of-year service at the Cathedral.

Teaching

Every class has a single session of Religious Education once a week, but all teaching and learning is planned to compliment the Anglican 5 Marks of Mission

  1. To proclaim the Good News of the Kingdom
  2. To teach, baptise and nurture new believers
  3. To respond to human need by loving service
  4. To seek to transform unjust structures of society, to challenge violence of every kind and to pursue peace and reconciliation
  5. To strive to safeguard the integrity of creation and sustain and renew the life of the earth

Culture

Our faith informs how we do what we do. From restorative discipline practices, to missional service, to servant leadership, and patterns of prayer. We hope to live out our values with consistency and integrity. As part of a three-tikanga Anglican Church in Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia, we seek to uphold the promises made in Te Tiriti o Waitangi.

Connections

Our School has an on-going relationship with St Mark’s Church (Parish of Opawa-St Martins) and is part of the wider Anglican Schools Network https://anglicanschools.nz/. We aim to review of our special character every 3-5 years. Our last review is available here https://saintmarks.school.nz/wp-content/uploads/Special-Character-Review-2019.pdf

“St Mark’s School exists to provide a balanced education, where a child’s academic, cultural, physical, social and spiritual needs are identified and nurtured in a dynamic Christian environment, grounded in the Anglican way and supported by a family-oriented community.”
